Submission Deadline: Submissions must be received no later than
January 19, 2023. Winners will be announced near the end of the Spring Semester.
Finalist Selection & Notification: The GMC PTO determines its own reviewers for the program. Entries will be reviewed and scored per a Rubric of technique, creativity, composition, and interpretation of theme. Artwork will be returned to the Cultural Arts /Contests Chair at each participant’s school.
Prizes: Awards will be given to the 1st , 2nd and 3rd places in each category and per age group.
Ownership and License: Ownership in any submission category shall remain the property of the entrant, but entry into this contest constitutes entrant’s permission and consent that the Germantown Municipal Council and/orGermantown Municipal School District may display, copy, reproduce, enhance, print, publish, distribute and create derivative works for contest and school purposes only. The Germantown Municipal Council is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. All images and written content must be original and not appropriated from any other resource

Art and Creative Writing Contest Submission Locations
Students should submit their entries at the following designated locations for each school:
Houston High: Please submit entries and the completed entry form in
Ms. Schulter's room. (The first room to the left of the Atrium.)
Houston Middle: Please submit entries and the completed entry form in the Front Office.
Riverdale Middle and Elementary: Please submit entries and the
completed entry form in Room B103 - Mrs. Lee’s 2nd Grade Classroom.
Dogwood Elementary: Please submit entries and the completed entry form
in the PTO Box in Mrs. Toll’s office.
Farmington Elementary: Please submit entries and the completed entry form
to the Art teachers.
Forest Hill Elementary: Please submit entries and the completed entry form in the hallway just outside of the office.
Look for the marked box.
GOAL: Please submit entries and completed entry form to the District Office front desk.
Eligibility: Students must be currently enrolled in a Germantown Municipal School to enter the contest.

General guidelines for High School Students
Personal Narrative: 500 – 1000 words. Written from personal experience.
Story: 500 – 1000 words. Fictional story with multiple, developed characters
Poetry: Group of 3 poems, minimum of 10 lines each, any style accepted.
General guidelines for Middle School Students
Personal Narrative: 200 – 800 words. Written from personal experience.
Story: Fictional story with multiple, developed characters
Poem: Group of 3 poems, minimum of 6 lines each, any style accepted.

Personal Narrative: 100 – 200 words. Written from personal experience.
Story: 100 – 200 words. Fictional story with developed characters

Students will use their creativity to tell what this year’s theme means to them.
Students may express themselves in one of three methods:
Eligibility: Students must be currently enrolled in a Germantown Municipal School to enter the contest.

Additional Submission Guidelines:
All images must be original and not appropriated from any other resource.
General guidelines for Visual Art submissions: Artwork to be created using traditional media for Drawing and Painting (ex: charcoal, pastels, pencil, crayon, marker, watercolors, collage, oil paints or acrylic paints.) Please do not mat or frame artwork. Artwork may be submitted on a variety of surfaces to include drawing/sketch paper, construction paper, and canvases. Original artwork must be no larger than 16” height x 20” width x 2” depth maximum size.
General guidelines for Photography submissions: May be either Color and Black & White, printed up to an 11 x 14 maximum size. Please do not frame photography submissions (dry mounting is acceptable but not required.)
General guidelines for Digital Art submissions: A hardcopy must be submitted to the digital paintings created with digital art software. All submissions to be in either JPEG or PDF files. In addition to the submitted hard copy and entry form at your schools designated art drop-off location, Digital Art Files must also be emailed to GMCPTOContest@gmail.com.
Original artwork may not be larger than a 16”x20” maximum size. Submissions containing filtered photos, photo manipulations, collages or animation are not accepted.
